MERRY CHRISTMAS CALLIGRAPHY

This “Merry Christmas” Calligraphy Tutorial demonstrates three different ways to write Merry Christmas.

1. FAUX CALLIGRAPHY.

The tutorial begins with faux calligraphy. Before learning calligraphy with brush pens or fine points, I always recommend learning faux calligraphy.

It’s super fun to practice faux calligraphy with these Tombow TwinTone Markers. You may use whatever pen you prefer for this first part of the calligraphy practice sheet.

Check out this blog post to learn more about Faux Calligraphy and why you should learn it first. The other blog post has a detailed step-by-step tutorial on how to do Faux Calligraphy, which includes a free worksheet to help you learn the basics.

To begin, trace the word “Merry Christmas” using the pen of your choice. Be attentive to how you move your pen, keeping in mind that when you move your pen down, you will need to add outlines to thicken the downstrokes.

In the second step, trace the “Merry Christmas” and add the outline to the downstrokes.

Third, follow the same steps as above, but this time fill in the outlines. You’re done! You’ve completed the tutorial! You’ve created calligraphy with any pen.

2. SMALL BRUSH PENS

The second way to calligraph “Merry Christmas” is using a brush pen with a small tip.

The small brush pen I recommend using with this worksheet is the Tombow Fudenosuke Hard Tip.

This is a good set of brush pens to learn calligraphy with. To learn more about them, check out this blog post where I share the best brush pens for beginners.

Take note of the “Merry Christmas” sample at the top of the sheet. The strokes you must make to form each letter were broken down and numbered. Whenever you lower your brush pen, you should press hard and when you raise it, you should lighten the pressure.

Take your small tip brush pen and trace over the “Merry Christmas.” You’ll do this for all the “Merry Christmas” on this page.

You can print as many pages as you need for extra practice. Print once and trace over it with tracing paper.

3. A CALLIGRAPHY TUTORIAL: LARGE BRUSH PENS FOR CHRISTMAS

This calligraphy tutorial concludes with a large tip brush pen writing Merry Christmas.

I recommend the Tombow Dual Brush Pen for this part of the worksheet. If you prefer another pen, you can use that too.

In addition to the small brush pens, this part of the worksheet has a sample “Merry Christmas” at the top of the page with guidelines on how to write the letters. This can be used as a reference when tracing over the “Merry Christmas.”.

I have so much fun creating brush lettering practice sheets. I love playing with different brush lettering styles. With this Merry Christmas and Season’s Greetings, I tried to get a retro look and they turned out great.

To create this Merry Christmas Brush Lettering Practice Sheet, I used the Tombow Fudenosuke Soft Tip pen and marker paper with my lettering lines underneath.

If you are using thicker paper, like the HP Premium32, I find it helpful to use an inexpensive light pad underneath so that the lettering lines are easier to see.

Make your brush lettering colorful using the Tombow Fudenosuke Colors or the Dual Brush Pens Holiday set.
